Consultation & Assessment
• Evaluate the condition of the concrete (moisture content, cracks, damage, previous coatings).
• Discuss the client’s needs: color preferences, durability requirements, budget, and use-case.
• Recommend the right system components, including moisture vapor barrier if needed.
Surface Preparation
• Mechanically grind the concrete using a diamond grinder to open the pores and remove contaminants.
• Repair cracks, spalls, and divots with epoxy or polyurea patching material.
• Thoroughly clean and vacuum the surface to ensure proper bonding.
Moisture Vapor Barrier & Basecoat
• Apply a moisture vapor barrier epoxy if needed (especially for new or below-grade slabs).
• Install the pigmented basecoat (usually 100% solids epoxy or polyurea), which acts as the adhesive layer for flakes.
Flake Broadcast
• While the basecoat is still wet, broadcast decorative flakes to full rejection (completely covering the basecoat).
• Allow the floor to cure, then scrape and vacuum off excess loose flakes for a smooth and even surface.
Topcoat Application
• Apply a clear polyaspartic topcoat, which seals in the flakes and provides a high-performance, UV-stable, chemical-resistant, and slip-resistant finish.
• Optional: Add aluminum oxide or other traction additives to the topcoat for increased slip resistance.
